MINRES: The waste-products pairings database

An introduction to the database

The waste-product pairings (WPP) database is a tool developed by the University of Leeds within the MINRES project, with technical input from the other project partners (BRE and Akristos) and industry consultees. Data stored in the database represent industry’s status with the use of mineral waste as a resource in the five key construction sectors. Two types of data are stored in this tool: Click here for further information

  • General information from literature and past resource sources
  • Information from discussions with industries are held (in the waste-product pairings sections).
More specifically, this information comprises the following;
  • General information on the five specific product sectors (ceramic products, cement, concrete, manufactured aggregates, insulation products)
  • Waste specific information relevant to the use of each waste in each of the product sectors. The available information covers, constraints on use, benefits and materials analysis data and further background information on each
  • Lists of alternative materials suitable for each product sector

The locations of the main operators in the five construction sectors covered by the WPP database can be accessed (through a GIS system), directly from the database.

The WPP database places its emphasis on waste users (construction product manufacturers). The waste user sets the technical standards and specification on products and determines the demand characteristics for feedstock resources. The database is expected to be useful to waste producers seeking to identify a construction application for their waste or co-product. It will also assist waste brokers or other intermediaries who do not have a detailed knowledge of the materials or product sectors covered by this project.The end users comprise construction product manufacturers that belong to the following sectors:

  • Ceramic products
  • Cement manufacturing
  • Concrete products
  • Manufactured aggregates
  • Insulation products

How the WPP database will be updated

The WPP database is available from www.zerowait.co.in/Minres/home.aspx and can be used as an archieving tool (where new data input becomes available only within the users organisation). Alternatively, data can be emailed to the project team to update the database for periodic release of updated versions.
