MINRES

If you operate in the mineral or waste material supply, construction product manufacture or construction industries, you will find this website useful.

The MINRES website aims to facilitate the use of mineral wastes – such as ashes, sludges, mineral processing residues– in the manufacture of construction products, including bricks, concrete products, aircrete, mineral fibre insulation, cement, plasterboard and manufactured aggregates.

The site gives:

  • Waste/product case studies illustrating the successful uptake of mineral wastes for fifteen waste/construction product pairings.
  • Five waste-focused sector studies that examine the mineral fibre insulation, manufactured aggregates, cement, concrete and brick and manufacturing sectors.
  • A waste/product database [insert link here]
  • A GIS system that allows you to search for sources of mineral waste and/or construction manufacturers sites in your area.
  • Links to other information and waste exchange services

MINRES was funded by the Department for Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and has been carried out by The Minerals Industry Research Organisation (MIRO), BRE, The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Leeds, Akristos Ltd and the National Industrial Symbiosis Programme (NISP).
